Silk Corset Victorian Era

Silk Corset

silk corset back

I saw an original corset in these colors in a Victorian Magazine and fell in love with it- I would later run across the same type of corset described in Norah Waugh's Corset and Crinoline. I absolutely fell in love! It is a 1880's-90's style and short enough to be very flexible still. I put spiral steel boning in it to assist in this matter. The silk is interlined with a firm cotton and lined with a black cotton twill for durability. It also features a twill tape reinforcement at the waistline and hand worked eyelets.

Me and Belle, showing how comfortable this corset is.

Brocade Victorian Era

This is a lightweight corset in a larger size done in brocade with an inner lining of a light weight cotton twill. The front stays are regular spring steel corset boning while the side stays are spiral steel, to give both support and flexibility.

Late Victorian/Edwardian
Twill

This corset is a longer fronted corset appropriate from the late 1870's-1900's. I only make this corset currently in smaller sizes (up to about a 36" bust) because I took the pattern from my great-great aunt's original corset. Its nice because there is only one layer of twill or drill, so it makes a nice summer corset. It does take a bit of breaking in time to allow it to shape itself to you. All seams are flat felled, and boning is put on with boning tape.

Late Victorian/Edwardian
Bustle

This is a wire "cage" bustle for a very full bustle look. It is made from a durable twill fabric, has 3 straight "hoops" and two at the top that are crossed. The center back seam is flat felled and the inside bustle seams are bound. The stays are removable for washing.
The top back has two short pieces of feather boning inserted to keep the crossed hoops in place, and the others fold up nicely when you sit down. Brass grommets and lacing allow it to be somewhat adjustable.
